Rich's Pink Pig

So as I sat crammed into the tiniest train imaginable, all I could think of was "man this was way cooler when I was a kid." I snapped a quick pic of the original "Priscilla" train, and my thoughts quickly changed to "holy crap I rode on that death trap disguised as a carnival monorail ride?" The train passes by pictures of kids smashed against the caged windows having the time of their lives and slowly I was reconvinced that the pink pig was an amazing experience.

Although I was alot younger when it was downtown, I was lucky enough to have a father who worked right in the city.  We took advantage of this during the holidays and a Braves parade here or there.
The Pink Pig's next stop was the Egelston Festival of Trees (does anyone know why this tradition stopped?)  Which was a frequent favorite of my Girl Scout Troop. After tiring out with the madness of ornament swapping a quick trip around in the Pink Pig was a perfect end to the day. Nostalgia aside, I'm glad this tradition is still going, even if it is a bit on the tame side. Oh and of course, I would also prefer it returned to it's former glory downtown (along with that great big christmas tree)!
Sent from my Droid X...so the spelling and grammatical errors will be fixed later tonight!

Property Virgins

So by the time that we figured Dave and I would be ready to buy a house, I was sure that we were going to call HGTV and Sandra to help us in our search. Instead, things turned out a bit different for us.

I would like to thank our neighbors upstairs for helping us get to our current situation. Their disco parties, elephant like stomping, and the flooding of their bathtub, made us want to move out of the hell hole that is our apartment complex. Not to mention the "Smith" like fire alarms at all hours of the day and night. In our search we thought we would continue to rent and stumbled on a craigslist add for "The Stacks." The rent seemed affordable & when I went to the company website, I realized buying a condo might just be a possibility there as well.

No matter what we knew we wanted to move back into the city. We were completely over Dunwoody and wanted to be in a place where we could walk or ride our bikes to everything - even to Turner Field!

The Stacks are condos converted from the old Fulton County Cotton Mill. There were apartments there first (not that great) but they are converting them all into nice condos. We are buying directly from the builder and our part of the project is the second phase. It took the builder a little longer than expected due to the Tornado in March 2008.

So here we are - under contract for a condo at The Stacks and we can't wait for everything to be finalized...fingers crossed!!

East Atlanta Strut 5k

Today we decided to put some of our marathon training to the test! We signed up for the East Atlanta Strut 5k a few weeks ago because a few friends had recommended it. I have only done a few 5k's before, and this was Dave's first! We were both pretty excited till we drove through the course last week...holy hills!!

Well it really wasn't the end of the world for Dave, who has been training outside and taking a route with some nice hills on it. I on the other hand have been rocking the treadmill after work and usually only run outside on our long runs on the weekend. So needless to say I was a little nervous about our endeavor.

Immediately out of the gate Dave left myself and my friend Amy behind! We ran together for almost 2 miles, when i had to taper off because a very large hill. I guess in the end Amy caught up with Dave and beat him by 2 seconds...haha! I kept trucking and came in around 2 minutes after Amy and Dave.

We were also really lucky - it poured all the way to the race, stopped while we ran, and poured all the way home. All in all it was really fun, Dave was wondering what the next one will be! I think that we will look into a 10k in the area. Any suggestions?

Getting Closer!

So we are less than a month from our wedding date and we are both really excited. We can't wait to see all our friends and family, but are sad some people won't be able to come...stupid recession.

Added into all the preparations, Dave and I have decided to start training for a marathon. We've conned a few of our friends to join us as well. We chose a marathon which was a little further away on the calendar, so that we all could get into better shape. So far the training has been going really well. We just completed our 6th week and not only do we feel great, we look it too!

We've also cut out a lot of drinking, which has been great on the body and the budget. Can't get up and do a long run hungover!!

If you want to join us in this challenge - we've set up a site with blogs, discussions, and a training program!

Back in Funwoody

Never thought that I would say this...but i'm pretty pumped to be living back in Dunwoody! We are both finally closer to work and couldn't be happier.  Dave and I busted ass this weekend and moved ourselves in about 4 hours. We were champs and pretty darn proud of ourselves - cept for the fact that we "missed" the cable guy and were without cable and internet for a few days. *gasp* but it's all good, because after some bitching on my part we lowered our cable bill by about 50 bucks for the next 12 months!

the kitties are enjoying the all the room in our new place, although they were quite freaked out at first.

the next step is unpacking all the crap we have accumulated over the years and getting a few more things out of storage. My dad is coming down this weekend to bring back my scooter and i can't wait to save some money on gas by not filling up the jeep once a week.

to all the out of town guests...you now actually have a room to stay in...no more crashing on the couch!! :)
